What I love about this site is that it does a really nice job of conveying a single concept—one that’s otherwise hard to grasp. Who the hell knows how far it is to Mars? Even if you someone gives you a number, it’s difficult to visualize since you have little to compare it to. This does a lovely job of giving a comparison using pixels and relating it to the much smaller distance between Earth and the Moon.
This just goes to show that infographics don’t have to display everything you ever wanted to know about a subject. They should be about helping people understand the subject better. When presented with a laundry list of facts, I’m guessing most people only remember one or two anyway, so why not focus on clearly conveying just one?
